“Embracing Change: From Corporate Career to a Passion-Driven Life”

How many of us really start our careers with a strong sense of what it is we really
want to do? As a teenager or young adult, you barely know yourself, let alone what
you truly like or think you like. Most of us are pushed or influenced by what we see
others do or by the expectations of our parents, right?
I still remember how I got into my first job, although it feels like a lifetime ago. It was
primarily with the goal of making money, as survival was the key driver. I didn’t have
the luxury of choosing something I was passionate about. It was more like a vague
idea of something I thought I could be good at, and even that was a stretch. Better
still, something that was available to me at the time while searching for a job.
Somewhere along the way, life took me on a journey rather than me being the
captain of that ship or train or whatever analogy you prefer. Fast forward two
decades, and I found myself questioning where I was in my career and how I ever
thought it was a good path to begin with. It took another decade for me to actively set
a new course, one that aligned with my true passions.
Don’t get me wrong, I am humbly grateful for my previous career as it saw me
through some truly interesting and tough times. It also gave me some great
experiences and built a good arsenal of skills and strengths I use today still.
However, upon reflection, it was something I was good at, but it didn’t resonate with
my soul the way my current role does. My joy and sense of purpose now come from
helping others grow and shape their lives.
So, I transitioned from a career in the corporate world, working with some of the
biggest banks and financial services providers, to running my own company in
transformational coaching. It was a leap that I’m immensely grateful I was able to
make, even if it took three decades to get there.
You’re never too old to change your course. But I must admit, it was a step change
that took me far out of my comfort zone and required a considerable amount of
courage. I discovered I had it in me all along, something I never would have believed
back then. Sometimes you have to go through life experiences to realise what you
truly want. It’s funny how life unfolds in such a way.
I’m now on a journey to follow the passion I only discovered when I stumbled into the
job that I thought I could do for the rest of my life. Why did it take me so long? Life
and responsibilities, the gripping fear of job security through a monthly cheque. Now,
I’ve taken the plunge to work for myself, and it has brought about significant changes
in my mindset and skill set.
The moral of the story is that you have it in you to make a change, to pursue your
passions, no matter your age. It might require stepping out of your comfort zone and
pushing the boundaries, but the rewards are immeasurable. Sometimes, you need to
experience life fully to uncover your true desires.

Life is a remarkable journey, filled with twists and turns. Embrace change, discover
your passions, and never be afraid to redefine your path, no matter how many years
it takes. Life is too short to not follow your heart and pursue your true calling.
